Our Mission
Preserving DYC's and Duxbury's Historic Maritime Heritage
The DYC Historical Preservation Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to caring for three historic properties in Duxbury’s Old Shipbuilder’s National Register District:
- Sprague Barn & Land c. 1760 — part of the earliest settled farmsteads in the area
- Mattakeesett House c. 1799 — formerly the Joshua Winsor House & Store; the heart of early village commerce
- Ellison Clubhouse 1913 — a Craftsman/English Revival waterfront landmark by architect Harold Field Kellogg
These places tell the story of DYC’s and Duxbury’s maritime heritage. Through careful restoration, ongoing maintenance, and community engagement, we ensure they remain a source of pride and education for generations to come.

Why Preservation Matters
Every historic building tells a story. In our case, it’s a story of shipbuilders, merchants, farmers, and sailors — of a community shaped by the sea. Protecting these properties is not just about bricks and beams; it’s about keeping Duxbury and DYC’s identity alive for future generations to learn from and enjoy.
